Building your business online

While working at Dilithium Networks, I started running occasionally with Mitch, the SVP/GM Business Unit Service Providers & Corporate Marketing.  One day after a run, we were talking about content and being on the web and everything I’m pretty passionate about. And I said: “Mitch. DilithiumNetworks.com just doesn’t do what you need it to do. You need it to demonstrate what Dilithium is all about–in the real world!”

And he was a bit affronted. . . But I’m like that. I just make bold statements. He was gracious and let me continue to rant.

“For example, Dilithium enables some pretty cool stuff. Like live TV. What is live TV? If I went to DilithiumNetworks.com and tried to find something about Live TV, I would click. And click. And probably click again before I found something that might be related to Live TV. Then, I would click on a Live TV link and I what would I see? I would probably see text!”

“TEXT!” I exclaimed, “Text! What is so exciting about text?”

“Mitch,” I took a breath and was a bit more calm. “You should be using your web presence to reflect everything you do in the physical world. Everything you do in the physical world to do business, you should be recreating–in some form–online. You spend tonnes of money traveling and going to trade shows and creating demos. How can you reuse all of those resources and effort on the web? ”

My specific question was: “How are you using the web to demonstrate leadership in the mobile video industry and demonstrate the what your technology enables a consumer to do?”

And so started our conversation about DiltihiumVideo.com.

I worked with a team of three others to create the site in WordPress with relevant plug-ins. We launched in five weeks and under budget. The initial site included a visual identity, 18 articles Mitch had written himself, and training to members of his team on updating and maintaining content.
